AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan says League executives have already started a review of its controversial 'three-strikes' illicit drugs policy.

Speaking on AFL.com.au's First Bounce, the AFL boss reaffirmed his belief that the policy – as with all AFL policies and programs – needed to be looked at closely to make sure it is still appropriate to today's football landscape.

"It's a voluntary policy that has had the input of all experts and the relevant parties, but I think it's appropriate after 10 years to have a look at that and in the context of all of our policy settings, given there's been some well-articulated issues in the last couple of years," McLachlan said.

McLachlan revealed the review was already underway, with AFL football operations manager Mark Evans and general counsel Andrew Dillon charged with the responsibility of driving the process.

"I know they've met with the players' association and they'll be getting around to all of the clubs, talking to health professionals, the police force, all the relevant people who were engaged in the conversation last time," McLachlan said.
