GEELONG faces a selection dilemma ahead of Friday night's blockbuster qualifying final against Richmond as it contemplates how many talls it should play against the fleet-footed Tigers.

With wet weather predicted and Richmond playing just one tall forward in Jack Riewoldt and one genuine ruckman in Toby Nankervis, the Cats may be forced to leave out impressive youngster Wylie Buzza.

He may make way for returning skipper Joel Selwood who has been cleared fit to play after he underwent ankle surgery a month ago.

Cats coach Chris Scott was non-committal when asked about selection but indicated the selection committee had discussed the number of talls it should take into the game.

"We've thrown up all those things," Scott said.

"We are going to take into consideration the make-up of the opposition team when we pick our team."

The Cats could once again pit swingman Harry Taylor against the Tigers' All Australian full-back and captain Alex Rance after Taylor kicked four goals against him in round 21. 

"We're not shying away from it. We think that will be a really good contest and one to look out for," Scott said.

However Tom Hawkins will play up forward after missing that game against Richmond and the Cats also have Zac Smith, Mark Blicavs, Tom Lonergan and Lachie Henderson as options to play a number of roles. 

Scott said the Tigers were a unique challenge and complimented the way they had set up this season.

"They have worked in a really clever way with the personnel they have got and it has worked for them for the bulk of the season," Scott said.

The Cats' small forward James Parsons will play after missing the second half of the final round with a mid-foot sprain while Nakia Cockatoo remains a live option to play for the Cats later in the finals series.
