As of Tuesday 48,682 tickets have been sold to Friday night's match between Geelong and the Western Bulldogs at the MCG.
General admission sales commence on Wednesday.
Early indications are also solid for Saturday night's second preliminary final between second-placed Hawthorn and fourth-placed St Kilda.
The Saints have a strong recent record against the Hawks and more than 44,000 tickets were sold by Tuesday.
The Hawks and Saints have not met in a final since the 1971 premiership decider which was played in front of 118,192 at the MCG. Hawthorn came from behind to win that flag by seven points in a match famous for Peter Hudson bringing up his 150th goal for the season.
Geelong and the Western Bulldogs [then Footscray] met in four finals in the 1990s. The most recent was the 1995 third qualifying final in which the Cats triumphed by 82 points. However, the most memorable was the Saturday night thriller at the MCG in 1994 when Billy Brownless kicked a goal after the siren to steal victory for Geelong by five points.
