GUN Greater Western Sydney draftee Tom Green won't let the uncertainty surrounding the start of the season dampen his excitement, after being told he will debut against Geelong on Saturday night if the game goes ahead.

It's already been a monster week for the teenager, who also revealed on Wednesday he's signed a two-year contract extension, which ties him to the Giants until at least the end of the 2023 season.

With League officials yet to decide if the 2020 season will kick off this week because of the coronavirus pandemic, Green, like the rest of his peers around the competition, faces an anxious wait.

The GWS academy product, taken with pick No.10 at last year's NAB AFL draft, said on Wednesday he was "pumped" to be told by coach Leon Cameron that he was in the team to face the Cats.

Despite the fact that the season opener will be played without spectators if it does in fact go ahead, meaning his family will miss out on seeing him run out in Giants colours for the first time in a home-and-away fixture, Green couldn't wipe the smile from his face after training at Giants Stadium.

The hard-nosed midfielder said he got great confidence lining up against onballers like Sydney's Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker, and Richmond's Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin, during the pre-season competition.

"They're such good players and I learned so much from being out there with them, but I didn't feel like I was out of my depth," he said.

While Green is certain to take on Geelong and superstar Patrick Dangerfield if the two teams meet on Saturday night, star GWS defender Zac Williams might not take his place in Cameron's 22.

Williams missed the Marsh Community Series after his training was scaled back due to some soreness in the Achilles he tore in early 2018.

The dashing backman trained solidly with the rest of the squad on Wednesday but lined up opposite the Giants' best team in some match simulation drills, meaning he could miss the beginning of the year.

Draftee Lachie Ash and youngster Isaac Cumming performed well across half back during the Marsh Series, giving Cameron the luxury of easing one of his best attacking weapons into the season.

"We're going to have a really good discussion about Zac," Cameron said.

"He trained really well and played some match play last week as well, and the discussion will be around if he's done enough work to (be able to) take on the Cats in a really high intensity game.

"If we don't think he has then he'll have another week or two weeks (training), but we think he's getting really close."
