CARLTON defender Michael Jamison and tagger David Ellard are set to miss the Blues' season opener against Richmond after both were cited by the match review panel on Monday.

Jamison faces a three-match ban for his high bump on Adelaide's Ricky Henderson during the first quarter of the Blues' NAB Challenge victory at Visy Park on Friday evening.

Henderson was knocked out by the collision and play was held up for several minutes while he was stretchered from the field.

Jamison has been charged with a level three engaging in rough conduct offence. The match review panel assessed the contact on Henderson as negligent, high and of a high impact.

In total, the offence has drawn a penalty of 325 demerit points, which means a three-match suspension.

Because Jamison has no prior record he can have the penalty reduced to two matches if head pleads guilty.

If he is suspended, Jamison's absence will present a major headache for the Blues' hierarchy as he was likely to match up on Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt in round one.

Ellard has been charged with making negligent and high contact to Adelaide midfielder Scott Thompson during the third quarter of the same game.

He faces a two-match suspension, although this can be reduced to one if he lodges an early guilty plea.

Carlton onballer Bryce Gibbs has also been charged with making negligent contact with an umpire.

Gibbs faces a $1200 fine, although he can have it reduced to $900 by pleading guilty.

West Coast youngster Luke Shuey has been cited for the bump that left Collingwood's Tom Hunter in hospital with a neck injury.

Shuey faces the prospect of spending a week on the sidelines, but with an early guilty plea he can have his penalty reduced to a reprimand.

Andrew Embley's bump on Nick Maxwell, which has left the Collingwood skipper in hospital suffering bleeding from the kidneys, was also looked at.

The match review panel decided the contact was neither high nor unreasonable.

Michael Jamison is a $170,100 defender in the Toyota AFL Dream Team competition.
