Sydney Swans defender Matt O’Dwyer believes the Swans Reserves should look to their round 10 win against Queanbeyan to help them regain momentum in their quest to win their fifth consecutive AFL Canberra title.

The 16-point win was the Reserves’ first in Canberra this season.

“It was good, we hadn’t won in a while. All the boys played with a bit of passion, which was a bit different to how we have played, so it was a really good feeling,” O’Dwyer said.

And while it’s taken the first half of the season to learn how the new players perform, O’Dwyer believes the team has started to gel.

“I think we have got to know everyone’s strengths…and weaknesses and how they play, so I reckon this should be a turning point in the season.”

O’Dwyer said the first half of the year has been "disappointing", but there have also been some positives, with more players now "playing for the team", rather than as individuals.

The Swans face a tough road into the finals, playing front runners Eastlake twice and Belconnen once, Tuggeranong twice and Ainslie once.

Despite the Reserves’ record so far this season, O’Dwyer is confident that the team can win the premiership in 2009.

“We are a massive chance to go a long way in the finals if we make it…I reckon they second half of the season will be much better.

“We showed... that we can play really good football when we want to. It’s just a matter of everyone having a crack and playing their part in the team to get us there,” he said.

The Swans take on Eastlake at Manuka Oval this Saturday 28 June at 2.00pm
