The Premiums
It all starts in the midfield with my squad. I've selected a bunch of different premium players and proven high scorers. The likes of Matthew Boyd, Jobe Watson, Scott Thompson, Nathan Fyfe, and my teammate Josh Kennedy are all capable of posting 100 point scores week-in, week-out.
Matthew Kruezer has looked very impressive in the NAB Cup, and I'm fully expecting him to justify his position as my number one ruckman – at just over $400,000 his price is likely to rise and rise quickly if he maintains the sort of form you’d expect him to deliver.
I've locked in Goddard down back, while up forward I'm certain that Nick Riewoldt is set for a big year at the Saints. And I can't believe that Cloke is under $400,000, as he's one of the best key forwards in the competition.
The Bargains and the Comebacks
I've decided on two key forwards who had injury-interrupted years in 2012 to really make their mark in 2013.
Sam Reid is a bargain at just over $260,000. He's a key forward at the Swans, and when Kurt Tippett joins him in the second half of the year Reidy won’t have to cop the opposition's best defender each weekend.
Chris Dawes copped a fair bit of flack and perhaps he struggled playing the dual roles of key forward and part-time ruckman for the Pies. But at Melbourne he'll be stationed predominantly in the forward half, and will be a key target for their midfielders.
If Dale Morris can stay on the park he's a must-have player, and another defender who looks set for a big year is Hamish Hartlett, who also has the benefit of being available as a midfielder.
Chris Yarran is listed as a defender, but the promise of him moving further up the ground should see him post higher scores in the in 2013, and the same is true for Luke Bruest. He's only available for selection as a forward, but I’d expect him to move through the midfield at times this year.
It's hard to go past big Jon Patton at our rivals Greater Western Sydney. He’s a massive unit, a great target for them, and he's capable of tearing games apart. At his price, he could be an absolute bargain.
The Rookies
I’m very confident that Jack Viney and Jimmy Toumpas will see plenty of action for the Demons, and they should be great cash cows to trade when their price tops out.
Dan Currie spent a few years at the Swans but couldn't quite crack it for a game due to a range of injuries, but I reckon he'll make the most of his opportunities at North Melbourne. I really think he can be a big-time player for them in 2013, and I definitely want him in my.
The same goes for Dean Terlich at the Dees, who also used to be up at the Swans. He's another player who I reckon could make an impact after getting a second go at AFL-level.
Dane Rampe might only be a mature-age rookie at the Swans at the moment, but don't be surprised if he cracks it for a game and then stays there. His pre-season has been very impressive.
Finally, I have to select my brother, otherwise mum will never forgive me! He's on the bench … for now.
