The Brisbane Lions have raised a further $20,000 for disaster relief after auctioning off the Queensland Spirit guernseys worn by the team during the NAB Cup on the Club’s website.

A total of 46 guernseys were produced, meaning not all were match worn (only 29 players took to the field last Friday night) and the majority reached their reserve price.

Not surprisingly, Captain Jonathan Brown’s number 16 guernsey received the highest bid while young forward Todd Banfield proved popular among fans with the second highest valued jumper.

In addition to the money raised through the online auction, a further $3,500 was raised from gold coin donations at both the Queensland ($2,000) and Victorian ($1,500) Family Fun Days.

Included in the Victorian Family Fun Day’s $1,500 contribution was a $300 donation from the Fitzroy FC who sold caps and calendars at the event to help raise money for the cause.

The Club would like to thank all Lions fans who helped contribute towards these latest totals.

But the Lions are certainly not done yet with its financial support for those affected by the recent natural disasters, with the Club committed to ongoing fundraising and community initiatives throughout the 2011 season.
