RODNEY Eade says the Western Bulldogs will not take any players into next week's pivotal clash with Fremantle who have not recovered sufficiently from Saturday night's win over Port Adelaide.

Eade said the Dogs would have to be strong at the selection table and not be tempted to pick anyone who was still suffering the effects of the 27-degree heat in Darwin.

"Normally we've got a bye [after the Darwin game] so this is new territory," he said after the 36-point win over the Power.

"When we lost to Port here in 2006, we played the next week and we beat Adelaide the next week at the MCG after being five goals down on a seven-day break. This is an eight day break.

"We've certainly been mindful with our preparation. Normally our preparation for here is pretty good, which it was again, and we made a conscious effort to rotate.

"We've got to be courageous enough that if there are players we think are still fatigued and haven't recovered, we certainly couldn't afford to play them next week."

Key forward Barry Hall is not rated as certain to return from an ankle injury as he is yet to be fully tested on the track.

However, ruckman Ben Hudson will receive some relief against Aaron Sandilands with Jordan Roughead expected to recover from the gastro that sidelined him on Saturday night.

Eade said it was pleasing to see his team still generate enough scoring opportunities even without Hall.

"We had 23 scoring shots and a few out on the full," he said.

"That was certainly pleasing. A lot of times our forwards didn't run to the right spots and our kicking was down.

"It was reasonably slippery and wet but it was good to be able to create opportunities."

He also said a "gentle reminder" at the quarter-time huddle got his players going after they slipped 16 points behind thanks largely to their failure to man up their opponents.

"I thought if we could lift our work rate we'd be okay, and after quarter time we've kicked two goals. The areas we spoke about at quarter time we lifted in, our pressure was better and where we needed to position ourselves to put pressure on them," he said.

"I thought we floated a bit and zoned a bit too much and after that we probably didn't take our chances either.

"We're pleased with the win and to come up here at get the four points."
