MELBOURNE defender James Frawley is determined to make sure Saturday's heavy loss to Hawthorn is a one-off and not the start of a trend for the 2010 season.
Despite their early spirit, the Demons were overrun by the Hawks in the first half and slumped to a 56-point defeat.
"It wasn't the best day to be a defender," Frawley said. "To get beaten by that much is obviously not what you want in the first game of the season.
"It takes the wind out of your sails a bit, but all we can do is regroup and get ready for next week. We've just got to do the review, recover right and put in a better performance against Collingwood.
"We'll have a good, hard look at ourselves."
Frawley said coach Dean Bailey had urged the players to forget the past and take the game on after half time, and the Dees were able to at least outscore the Hawks in the final term.
In the face of such a relentless onslaught, Frawley stood tall and found plenty of the ball, but was still desperate to get another crack at it next week.
"I felt pretty good running the game, but like everyone, I've got areas to improve on," he said.
"I'm going to hit the training track hard and try and redeem myself a bit.
"Everyone's doing everything they possibly they can. We're not going out there to lose like that, but we've just got to keep working hard on the track."
