The 24-year-old was given free reign of Subiaco Oval in his side's 50-point win over Port Adelaide and won 33 possessions, including eight clearances.
Worsfold said Selwood was West Coast's best performer in the round two win.
"We would say that if we just let him go out there and play every week he would be up there with the elite possession winners in the competition, averaging in the mid-20s," Worsfold said from Subiaco Oval on Tuesday.
"We know he's got the ability to do that.
"He's also got the ability to play other key roles – helping shut down key players from the opposition, he's played as a tight-checking defender as well and done extremely good jobs there.
"That means he adds a lot of value and means he's a very, very important part of our 22."
Selwood's round two performance came despite a four-week lay-off following minor knee surgery.
Versatile defender Adam Hunter also pulled up well following his first match for the season, but veteran David Wirrpanda is battling hamstring soreness.
Worsfold said Wirrpanda would be given every chance to overcome the back-related hamstring trouble ahead of this Saturday's clash with St Kilda.
"We're not going to push him up too hard, but because it is related to his back there is every chance that he could be feeling really good on Thursday morning," the coach said.
"We'll keep him there as a possibility all the way up until we see what he can do on Thursday."
Wirrpanda noticed the soreness at training on Friday and was a late withdrawal from the side that beat Port Adelaide. But Worsfold said the 29-year-old has battled through similar injuries before.
"He did a bit of work over the weekend again, and he could still feel an awareness, or a very slight awareness there on Monday morning – even though he went out and ran well," the coach said.
"He's played with them before and he's got through games, so we've got to weigh that up.
"Depending on the level of soreness, players can get through and not tear their hammies when they've had these feelings. But there is a risk involved every time you do that.”
Worsfold said Mark Seaby's role backing up ruckman Dean Cox would be assessed ahead of the Docklands clash, while Brent Staker was also under consideration.
