WEST Coast vice-captain Scott Selwood is on the verge of returning from an ankle injury after missing the past six weeks.
Selwood hasn't played since round one after suffering ongoing problems with his ankle that twice required surgery last year.
The Eagles decided to take a cautious approach with Selwood after he experienced soreness following the round one loss to the Western Bulldogs.
The club elected to give him time to let his pain settle before recommencing a period of training.
Worsfold won't rule out coaching return
Eagles general manager of football Craig Vozzo told the club's website on Tuesday that Selwood would be tested this week to see if the midfielder was ready to play.
"'Scoot' is going to be tested later in the week," Vozzo said.
"He's had a good build-up to this point in time and we're hopeful this week."
Selwood may struggle to come straight back into the Eagles' line-up to face St Kilda on Saturday at Etihad Stadium after six weeks without a run in the WAFL.
However West Coast's WAFL team, East Perth, do not have a game this week due to a bye which may force the club's hand.
Vozzo also said that key forward Jack Darling was edging closer to a return after impressing in training over the past fortnight.
"Jack is tracking really well," Vozzo said.
"He had a really good week on the track last week and we expect him back in two, possibly three (weeks)."
Young key defender Jeremy McGovern is expected to return this week after missing the win over Gold Coast with a corked calf. McGovern was withdrawn last Saturday after failing to recover from the cork he suffered against Port Adelaide. Vozzo said McGovern should be fine provided he got through training this week.
Brad Sheppard is also expected to play this week after copping an awkward knock to the right knee late in the win over the Suns.
"We were lucky there," Vozzo said.
"That was just one of those unfortunate knocks in game and (there was) a bit of bruising.
"If he gets through training he'll play against the Saints."
Vozzo said the Eagles are going to be cautious with Matt Rosa after the midfielder injured his hamstring at training last week. The veteran is set to miss two to three weeks.
