A BUSINESS group established by the Power in late August has raised $1.8 million in new revenue for the club in just three months.
The Port Adelaide Football Club ‘Business Ambassadors Group’ was established with a meeting of 80 South Australian business people at Adelaide Oval in August. The Group has since grown to 200 members.
The $1.8 million in new revenue generated by the Group is a conservative figure for the next three years based on new sponsorships and take-up of 2011 hospitality and events; of this some $950,000 will be banked by the club as new revenue in 2011 alone.
This is separate to the multi-million dollar contribution announced by Gordon Pickard in November following the success of the One Port Adelaide reunification.
Port Adelaide Chief Executive Mark Haysman says the role of the Business Ambassadors Group is very specific - to assist the club with accelerating the short-term aspects of the club’s revenue strategy.
This includes:
- identifying and delivering new sponsorship opportunities, from Coterie members through to the upper levels of sponsorship
- increasing revenue from current fundraising initiatives, such as the club’s Gala Auction, the Fishing Safari and the Outback Odyssey, and
- identifying and helping implement new short-term revenue raising initiatives.
“We have very well-defined medium and long-term business strategies, but identified the need for ways to bolster our short-term revenue,” Haysman said. “Activating our business networks through the Business Ambassadors Group has been an outstanding way to do that.
“I would personally like to thank the Group Steering Committee, which has been chaired by Port Adelaide Board member Mick O’Connor and included our President Brett Duncanson, Greg Boulton and Brian Cunningham.”
The new revenue comes from two key areas - hospitality/events and sponsorships.
The Group has sourced an additional $500,000 in hospitality and events packages for 2011 alone, including support for a corporate Fishing Safari to be based out of Darwin in May 2011 in association with the club’s round 10 game against Richmond.
“The Group has also sourced an additional $1.3 million in sponsorship over the next three years, including $450,000 in 2011,” Haysman said. “This includes the recently announced V.I.P. Home Services Coaching Group sponsorship. We will be announcing some of the other sponsorships over the coming weeks.”
The Group will hold a private function in Adelaide tonight to celebrate its success.
The Business Ambassadors Group will now focus on a major fundraising event to be held on 15 April next year, the night before the ‘Showdown’.
