FREMANTLE will enter its season-opening clash with Port Adelaide after a summer motivated by the team's swift dismissal from last year's finals series.

The Dockers meet the Power – who bounced them out of the September race at the semi-final stage last season – next Sunday after a summer of reflection.

Ruckman Aaron Sandilands said while it was just a "coincidence" the Power were their first opponents for season 2015, the Dockers were hungry to face off with the premiership fancy in the opening round.

"To get knocked out in straight sets is very disappointing but I think that's what spurs you on over the pre-season," Sandilands said.

"Their strength is they field the 18 positions on the ground really well. 

"For us it's all about focusing on the way we play and bringing our game plan to life and if we execute our role and bring a great effort, it will put us in good stead. 

"The guys are excited about the chance to run out there and play four quarters of footy again."

The Power were one of three teams – along with Hawthorn and the Sydney Swans – unanimously picked by the 18 club captains last week to make this year's finals.

"They're a quality side and you want to play against the best sides and test yourselves against them so to have them first up it's a huge challenge but it's a challenge we're really looking forward to," Sandilands said.

He said they were expecting a hot contest next Sunday, with round one matches traditionally played at breakneck speed early on. 

He also said competition for spots would be tough with Michael Barlow, Paul Duffield and Danyle Pearce getting through a WAFL game on Saturday. 

"Everyone is up and about and ready to go," he said.

"It was a long, gruelling summer but everyone's excited about round one."
