10. TRAVIS JOHNSTONE
Drafted:
1997
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays (Vic)
Clubs: Melbourne/Brisbane Lions
Games: 209

Career achievements
Johnstone's career may have come to an end in 2010 but for a time his right foot was among the most lethal in the game.

Perhaps he never hit the heights some may have expected, with injury and inconsistency plaguing the early years of his career, but when he was firing for Melbourne during its more successful run earlier in the decade, the Demons looked a far more potent outfit.

He played his best football on a wing, with some memorable performances on the MCG.

He won Melbourne's best and fairest in 2005, with that year and the following season clearly his best in Demons colours. The Chelsea junior was only fair in 2007, and after 10 seasons and 160 matches for the red and blue he was traded to the Brisbane Lions.

Again, he showed flashes of his immense talent, this time mainly across half-back, but failed to win a regular berth - firstly under Leigh Matthews and later under Michael Voss.

11. JOSH FRASER
Drafted:
1999
Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers (Vic)
Clubs: Collingwood/Gold Coast
Games: 200 (2000-)

Career achievements
Often maligned, particularly later in his career, Fraser was a loyal servant to Collingwood after being taken with the first pick in 1999.

Considered an ideal ruckman for the modern game, his versatility stood him in good stead as he debuted in the opening round of 2000 and immediately impressed. He earned a Rising Star nomination that year, and played all but one of the club's home and away fixtures.

He became a reliable and dependable ruckman with the ability to play in attack - one of the main reasons that made him such a standout at junior level and an easy pick for the Pies at No.1.

Fraser's agility has always been his great asset, but posterior cruciate ligament injuries have hampered his progress in recent years. Darren Jolly's arrival at Collingwood this year also limited his senior time. Out of contract at the end of this year, he sought a trade and will continue his career at Gold Coast.

12. DES HEADLAND
Drafted:
1998
Recruited from: Subiaco (WAFL)
Club: Brisbane Lions/Fremantle
Games:166

Career achievements
At his best, Des Headland had the ability to light up the game with his dash and long, penetrative kicking.

However while the former Brisbane Lion and now-retired Fremantle Docker enjoyed a stellar 12-season career that included a premiership with the Lions, he was unable to consistently produce his best - which sees him coming in at No.12 on this list.

He had one standout year in Brisbane - 2002 - when he was part of a premiership and finished sixth in the Brownlow Medal. However even that year he came a surprisingly-low 10th in the club's best and fairest award.

The following season Headland returned to his home state to play for Fremantle and away from the likes of Voss, Akermains and Black he found life tougher.

While still a handy contributor, he was not allowed the freedom he enjoyed roaming across half-forward and occasionally through the middle at the Gabba. He played in the middle and later more permanently in attack. He was severely restricted by knee injuries at the tail-end of his career, which limited his pace and kicking ability.
