It was back to school for the Hon. Martin Dixon on Tuesday, as he joined Grade 3 and 4 students from Holy Rosary Primary in The Huddle classroom. While the Education Minister admitted he couldn't quite remember being told stories at school, he was glad to take part in storytelling on the day.

However, he was able to re-tell a story from his grandmother about Chinese communities on the Bendigo goldfields and he spoke of the thrill of hearing these tales, passed down from generation to generation, as a child.

Asked by the children to recall his favourite books when he was little he replied, "anything written by Enid Blyton, especially the Famous Five books and their messages about friends sticking together."

The children of Holy Rosary Primary weren't backwards in nominating their favourite books, which included Mallory Towers, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Where the Wild Things Are, Zac Power and Max Rumble, Horrible Histories, Adventures of Selby, Captain Underpants, and Harry Potter.
