DESPITE a starring five-goal haul from retiring forward Barry Hall it was a disappointing end to the Bulldog's farewell match at the SCG.

The former co-captain of the Sydney Swans, who held the premiership cup aloft in 2005, showed signs of his brilliant best with a dominant display.

But Hall's former club spoiled his farewell match at his former home ground, and with it, significantly dashed the Bulldogs' faint finals hopes.

After 284 games and 720 goals, Hall said it was an unfortunate farewell at the SCG but felt significantly better than the last time he said goodbye.

"It was just good to play my last game here and not end it in the back of a ute so it was satisfying for me that way," Hall said after the match.

"It was a pretty disappointing [result]. We got dominated today really. Inside 50s and stoppages were very one sided.

"Although I kicked five goals, it doesn't put any more shine on it. It's pretty disappointing; all of the boys are pretty flat."

Hall was lively up forward for the second week in a row and pushed his goal kicking tally to 29 for the year, but the 34-year-old said he hasn't pulled the pin too early.

"No, not at all. I'm pretty content about my decision," Hall said.

"I definitely won't miss a few things about footy and pulling up after games like this is certainly something I won't miss."

With the Bulldogs now sitting one-and-a-half wins outside the top eight, Hall admits the club's fourth consecutive finals campaign looks grim.

"I think so but we've just got to do what we can control and that's win all the games that are put up in front of us," he said.

"It was disappointing today but who knows, things might fall our way."
