Hi there kids,

Well, it wasn’t a great result for us against the Western Bulldogs last weekend, but we learn from the game and move on.

That is something that has always been a part and parcel of this club through thick and thin.

Learn something from each game, don’t dwell on it too much, and then look forward to the coming week.

It’s something that you can apply to your own games and school and club level.

You often hear the statement about players or teams ‘getting ahead of themselves’ or ‘getting comfortable with themselves’.

That basically means they are feeling good about their wins and good games and dwelling on them, rather than focusing on the next challenge.

That can only lead to problems.

If you have read plenty of the Diaries from the Den and other player stories on our website over the years, you will often notice our players talking about the next challenge, rather than dwelling on the past.

That’s good and bad.

You can apply the same philosophy to your schoolwork or most things that you do in life in general.

We try not to get over-excited about our big wins, nor get too down about bad losses.

If you keep your emotions in check both ways, you are always going to tackle the next challenge with a clear and balanced focus.

Our games obviously come under a lot of scrutiny with the live TV and newspaper coverage and internet, meaning a lot of people have got an investment in the result.

It also means that wins and losses can be exaggerated one way or the other because of that immense interest.

That is all the more reason to maintain a level headed view on results.

We had won four games in a row leading up to last weekend and a lot of people were pumping us up. One off day and all of a sudden we are being punted into a completely different category.

To us, each week is simply a fresh start and I believe that is a good way to play your football.

Until next time,

- Jed
