THE BRISBANE Lions’ form has mirrored that of high profile recruit Brendan Fevola, but coach Michael Voss was loath to criticise his full-forward after Saturday's 63-point mauling by Geelong at Skilled Stadium.

Fevola kicked just one goal from eight touches on Matthew Scarlett.

“On every line we have players that are going through tough periods. I think to pin that on one person would be unreasonable and unfair,” Voss said.

“One person doesn’t get us out of this, all of us do.

“Maybe we’ve left it up to one person to be able to do it in the past and we’ve got to get past that - it takes everyone to contribute.”

Voss praised his players’ never-say-die attitude after what he called “the hardest road trip in footy”.

The Lions were held goalless until the 19-minute mark of the second term and were let down by poor foot skills and decision making.

Despite the lopsided result, they showed patches of form against a polished and tough Cats outfit.

It marked a stark improvement on last week’s 75-point capitulation to Hawthorn where they showed barely a whimper of resistance.

“The first thing we spoke about before this game was not our finesse but our will,” Voss said.

“We have to persist at being able to make sure we can get that right and that our contest is vigorous.

“Despite being down by 10 goals we still had guys that were chasing and tackling and hitting in and going right to the siren.

“I wouldn’t say that it was positive but there were positive signs, I don’t think you’ll ever walk away positive at the fact you lost by 10 goals but in terms of their approach to the game I’m proud of them.”

The Lions now have just one win from their past 13 matches and have looked a shadow of the side that won the opening four games of the season.

Of more consolation to Voss was the performance of first gamer Ryan Harwood.

The former third-round draft pick gathered 17 disposals and looked self-assured against a Cats midfield featuring the likes of Gary Ablett, Joel Selwood, Jimmy Bartel and Cameron Ling.

“I was pleased, he was playing against an elite midfield - and he hits in,” Voss said.

“In the long term he’s going to have a special quality and that is that when you’re in congestion you can get out of it but with speed.

“As his fitness builds and his confidence build I think he’s got some attributes there that will be a value for us.

“Look out for that name in a few years time.”
