Over 650 people turned out in force at the Peninsula, Docklands, on Wednesday evening, for what was a truly memorable season launch of the Carlton Football Club.

It was a night for Carlton - major sponsors Coterie Members, Guernsey Club sponsors and members mingled with players, board members and officials, as Carlton's senior list of 2008 was introduced by the evening's MC, Tim Lane. Carlton Senior Coach Brett Ratten, who had earlier introduced  the full-time assistant coaches  to the captive throng, extended a hearty handshake with each player as he was called to centre stage.

News of Bryce Gibbs' re-signing for two years was also conveyed to the captive gathering, while newly-appointed Carlton captain Chris Judd talked candidly of his great desire to commit all of his energies to a team and a club that was going places.

Carlton President Richard Pratt echoed the sentiments of all supporters when he talked of a genuine anticipation for 2008, but issued a timely warning in the countdown to the season opener at the MCG on March 20.

"In just over a week from now we'll confront a fired-up Richmond in its centenary year," Pratt said.

"To all you players I say, 'Be ready'. Your supporters certainly are. We're ready as never before."

Resident comedian and passionate Carlton supporter Dave Hughes produced some of his finest work in a routine which covered anything and everything, from Ben Cousins to The Biggest Loser. Audiences also warmed to the music of  the cabaret act live from Las Vegas, Barbara and Frank in what was billed "The concert that never was ... ".
