ADELAIDE has confirmed that promising midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has signed a contract extension with the club.

Dangerfield has played 38 games for the Crows since arriving at West Lakes via pick No.10 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.

The 20-year-old had been linked to Gold Coast and the club he grew up supporting, Geelong but said he never contemplated leaving Adelaide.

“It’s great to get this sorted out,” Dangerfield told afc.com.au

“It hasn’t been the greatest season for the team but there’s lots of potential in this group. The footy club has been great to me since I was drafted and I think we are going to be a force in the AFL for the next few years and challenge for finals.”

Dangerfield, who wears club legend Mark Ricciuto’s famous guernsey No.32, opted to spend his first year in the AFL system finishing his schooling in Victoria, but made an immediate impact when he shifted to Adelaide at the end of 2008.

The courageous onballer played 21 games, including two finals in his debut season, picking up a NAB Rising Star nomination along the way.

He has played 15 of a possible 17 games this year and Crows football manager Phil Harper said the club was rapt to have secured the line-breaking goal-kicker’s signature.

“The club is extremely pleased to re-sign Patrick as we see him as an integral part of our team going forward,” Harper said.

“Patrick was keen to recommit to the club as he sees a bright future with the group of talented young players at the Crows at the moment, so given those parameters it was very easy to reach an agreement.”
