Artistic Director of 2007 Come Out, Sally Chance says that she is delighted with the alliance and there are some exciting plans for the 2007 event as a result of the new partnership.
“It’s always been the way, that the arts and sports have had to compete with one another for interest, participation and funds,” Sally said.
“We believe that this type of sponsor partnership is the first of its kind in Australia.
“The Port Adelaide Football Club shares a similar passion to us in wanting to provide a positive and nurturing environment for young people to grow and excel,” Sally said.
Power chief executive John James said that the sponsorship arrangement ties in perfectly with other initiatives that have been developed to appeal to their young supporters.
“We have an extensive youth education program (Power Community Youth Program) and recently launched the first AFL Club website for kids, Planet Teal,” John said.
“We are right behind youth arts festivals like Come Out, as they epitomise our desire to support young people who are the future.
“It’s great to be a part of the arts as both sports and the arts play an important role in shaping young people’s lives.
“Sport gives the opportunity for young people to be active and develop self confidence and so does the arts, particularly events like 2007 Come Out,” John said.
Both the Port Adelaide Football Club and Come Out reach a wide range of children and young people across the state from diverse cultural and socio economic backgrounds.
The full Come Out 2007 program will be launched at the Dunstan Playhouse on November 17, 2006. The festival will open on May 7 and continue to May 19 2007. For more information and regular updates visit the Come Out website at www.comeout.on.net.
