The AFL today released its marketing campaign to launch the 2014 Toyota Premiership Season, titled Everything's Possible, featuring internationally acclaimed Australian actor Chris Hemsworth.
A national television, radio and print campaign, voiced by Melbourne-born Hemsworth and showcasing a host of AFL stars, will commence today in the lead up to the Opening Round of the 2014 Toyota Premiership Season (March 14).
The campaign features some of the AFL’s biggest names including the Gold Coast SUNS’ Gary Ablett, West Coast’s Nic Naitanui and the Sydney Swans’ Lance Franklin, with music provided by Australian band The Delta Riggs.
AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou said the beginning of the AFL season is a source of great excitement amongst fans and clubs alike.
“One of the great things about our game is its unpredictability and the accompanying sense of optimism we all enjoy at the start of each season,” Mr Demetriou said.
“No one knows who will have a breakout season or which team will ultimately walk away with the game’s biggest prize.
“This is a time of the year when fans let their imaginations wander, when everything’s possible. It’s why each new season brings so much excitement and anticipation.
“With this year’s Premiership Season starting earlier than ever before, with more blockbusters scheduled and new venues on offer, AFL fans have so much to look forward to in 2014.”
Chris Hemsworth, a lifelong Western Bulldogs supporter, said he was looking forward to the start of the AFL season.
"Growing up in Victoria as a Western Bulldogs supporter I know the feeling of anticipation that comes with the start of the AFL season,” Hemsworth said.
“As a passionate follower of the game I'm really pleased to be a part of this campaign and I’m looking forward to trying to get to a few Bulldogs games during the season.”
Chris Hemsworth has elected to forego a personal fee for his involvement with the campaign, instead requesting that the AFL make a donation on Chris’ behalf directly to the Australian Children Foundation – further details of which can be found via their website at http://www.childhood.org.au/donate/make-a-donation
AFL General Manager - People, Customer & Community, Dorothy Hisgrove, said AFL fans were at the heart of this year’s season launch campaign.
“The start of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season is a particularly exciting time for fans which is reflected in this campaign,” Ms Hisgrove said.
“Speaking directly to our fans has never been more relevant than this year given we will see an even greater focus on fan engagement and participation.
“As someone who knows Australian football and supports the game, we are delighted to have Chris Hemsworth support this campaign. Chris, along with a raft of our game’s superstars, really brings this campaign to life and reminds us in the best possible way that football is back.”
