Suns and Giants again set to load up on youth after activating compo picks
GOLD Coast and Greater Western Sydney will again be major players at the draft after confirmation they have activated first-round compensation picks.
After using two first-round selections at last year's draft, the Suns will again have two first-round selections in 2014 and 2015 to bolster their talented list.
They activated a round one selection which is tied to Geelong's finishing position, meaning it will be taken immediately following the Cats' round one pick.
The Suns have another compensation pick in 2014, a round three selection which was traded to them by West Coast last year in a swap of picks.
That will be taken in round three following Collingwood's selection, as it was originally the Magpies' compensation for losing Josh Fraser to the Suns in 2010.
In 2015 the Suns will hold an end of round one compensation pick but can trade that this year as part of any deal with another club.
The Giants' last compensation selection will be used at November's draft, at the end of the first round, strengthening their draft position for another year.
After being stripped of their first-round picks over the past two years due to the Kurt Tippett salary cap penalties, Adelaide will be back in the early part of the draft in 2014.
And despite losing its first two draft picks last year due to the supplements scandal, Essendon kept an end-of-first round pick in 2014, which will come before the other compensation picks at the end of the first round.
How the first round of the 2014 NAB AFL Draft would look if the ladder was the same as last year, including activated compensation picks:
