BRISBANE Lions midfielder James Aish should win the NAB AFL Rising Star award.

That's the verdict of the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Gatorade.

Aish, who missed just one game in his debut season, has tallied the most player ratings points of all the youngsters eligible to win the award.

His total of 194.5 points puts him just in front of Western Bulldogs players Marcus Bontempelli (186.9) and Jake Stringer (185.1) and Collingwood's Tom Langdon (178.2).

However, Aish ranks sixth among the 2014 Rising Star contenders for points per game, with 9.3. Bontempelli heads that statistic with 11.7 points per game, followed by Stringer (10.3), St Kilda's Luke Dunstan (10.2), Bulldog Nathan Hrovat (9.5) and Langdon (9.4) all ahead of Aish.

Stringer has the highest standing on the overall ratings table.

The reason is that he made his debut last season, so he has accumulated more points over the course of his career than first-year players like Aish and Bontempelli.
