NORTH Melbourne has extended the contract of another free agent, with Leigh Adams agreeing to a new two-year deal.

 

The midfielder, who will now be locked in with the Roos until the end of 2016, follows prospective Lachie Hansen in recommitting to the club this week.

 

The 26 year old said there was no lure to wait until the end of the year, when he would have become an unrestricted free agent.

 

"It's good to have the security of another two years," Adams said.

"I think from the time 'Scotty' (coach Brad Scott) got here, he said if we can create a great culture, blokes won't want to leave and that seems to be working.

 

"We're all pretty close and good mates down there, and the club looks after us, so no one has really found the need to leave."

 

Adams has played every game this year for the Roos, for a career tally of 89 since making his debut in 2007.

 

In that time, he is yet to play in a final, and has found his team's form this year "frustrating" as it aims to return to the top-eight this season.

 

The Kangaroos have enjoyed strong wins over the Sydney Swans and Fremantle away from home, but have also put in some flat performances, including last week's loss to Gold Coast.

 

They have the bye this weekend before facing the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium in round nine.

 

Adams told News Corp: "It shows when we are not 100 per cent in intensity, we can be an average team, like the rest. But when we come out and play to our best, we are right up there."

Adams echoed the thoughts of Hansen, who told AFL.com.au earlier this week the side needed to be able to turn things around when not at its best.

 

"We've just got to be able to grind out games and, if we're not playing well, still be able to find a way to win the game," Hansen said.

 

"When we're on we're on, we're really good, but at the moment when we're a bit off it's showing in games and we can't get the job done. 

 

"We've got to turn that around."
