A PHONE call from St Kilda coach Alan Richardson has helped calm Jared Petrenko's mind ahead of his training stint with the club.

The delisted Adelaide forward has been training with former teammate Kris Massie in Adelaide but will fly to Melbourne to meet up with Richardson and the Saints on Wednesday.

He'll join former teammate Shaun McKernan, who has also been invited to train with the Victorian club.

It's understood Petrenko has also attracted the attention of both Gold Coast and Richmond.

St Kilda hopes the explosive forward will fit in well at Seaford, particularly after both Terry Milera and Adam Schneider were delisted – although Schneider will be re-drafted as a rookie.

Petrenko, who was a Saints fan growing up, said the call from Richardson had helped ease his nerves as he fights for a second chance at the elite level.

"Richo rang me [Friday] night and sounded like a great guy, so I'm looking forward to working with him for the next couple of weeks," Petrenko said.

"He actually said 'you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that we need that pressure, aggression and speed up in the forward half'.

"He said he really likes the way I play and just not to put too much pressure on myself when I go and train there.

"It was really good to get the call from him, and I'm probably not as nervous now as I originally was, thanks to that phone call."

The 24-year-old has lost "a couple of kilos” since the start of the year and said he felt in terrific shape.

He said his lighter frame meant he ran with greater ease and didn't feel as top heavy as he did during the season.

Although his invitation to train with St Kilda is no guarantee the club will draft him, Petrenko insisted he was simply thankful for the opportunity.

"It's good to get my foot in the door, and hopefully I impress someone," he said.
