The Demons conceded the last six goals to crash to a 23-point loss against the Lions, with Melbourne coach Paul Roos labelling it the most frustrating game he'd seen.
Lyon, like Roos, was particularly damning of the Demons players' mindset through the game.
"That was a disgusting performance for Melbourne," Lyon said on AFL.com.au's Access All Areas program on Monday.
"Stop blaming coaches. Stop blaming the poor culture. Stop blaming the last five years, Melbourne players."
The Demons managed just 34 inside 50s to kick 6.15 on the afternoon, but their multitude of turnovers left Lyon and Roos flabbergasted.
Demons co-captain Nathan Jones said it was like the team gave up when the Lions got their last-quarter run on.
"It's as if we rolled over. It's going to be a tough pill to swallow for a lot of players," Jones told melbournefc.com.au.
"For me, I'm pretty bitter when we turn it up like that. There is a lot to ponder about it. It's hard to put it in words – whether it's a byproduct of the previous years gone by, but I don’t think it’s an excuse."
