A SKIN infection on Adam Schneider’s foot has finally responded to antibiotics but the veteran Saint is expected to be sidelined for up to a month.
Schneider, 30, has spent more than a week in hospital but the club is now hopeful he will be discharged on Wednesday.
"Thankfully, [the infection] has now responded to antibiotics and we anticipate the condition will be able to be managed at home,” St Kilda’s head of football Chris Pelchen told AFL.com.au.
"He is likely to miss three to four weeks."
The infection initially baffled the Saints as it did not stem from any injury or laceration (unlike David Armitage's infection that happened after his left knee was sliced open in round four).
But Schneider’s foot was mysteriously swollen after the Saints’ round 11 loss to Collingwood and coach Alan Richardson said last Friday "it could have been a lot worse".
The former Swan has had a torrid run with injuries in the past few years.
A badly bruised back - sustained against Port Adelaide in the pre-season - kept him out until round five this season.
He has played just 13 games across the past two years because of hamstring problems and dropped four kilograms ahead of this season to try and put those issues behind him.
In brighter news for the Saints, Armitage was among Sandringham's best on the weekend (his second hit-out in the VFL) and is in line for AFL selection this Sunday for the clash against Geelong.
Also, defender Sam Fisher is a chance to play his first senior game for the season if he passes a fitness test later in the week.
The 31-year-old has been battling a troublesome hamstring/back injury and got close to playing seniors on Anzac Day in New Zealand. However, he came back to Melbourne and played in the VFL the following weekend, only to aggravate the injury.
