TWO-TIME Hawthorn premiership player Sam Mitchell has inked a one-year contract extension that will see him play on until at least the end of 2015.
The 31-year-old will extend his career into a 14th season with his body feeling strong on the eve of the Hawks' premiership defence campaign.
"We've got a great bunch of guys here, I've enjoyed being part of the footy club – I've been here for a long time, it's like a second home in a sense," Mitchell told the club's website.
"I'm feeling pretty good, I've gotten through most of the pre-season unscathed. It was good to get most of the training in.
"I've played in all the practice games so far and hopefully I'll continue on that path.
"I'm in a pretty good place and ready for the start of the year."
Mitchell signed a one-year deal this time last year and said he had no hesitation in agreeing to another.
He said he expected to play in both the midfield and across half-back this season, as he did in 2013.
And, he said he had been impressed with the way his more experienced teammates had attacked the pre-season after winning last year's Grand Final against Fremantle.
"I think sometimes you expect it from the young guys that they're going to be really keen and try and take their opportunities but I've been really impressed by some of the older guys," he said.
"They've really come back with a good attitude and not resting on anything we've done in the past.
"They're ready to give it another crack this year to see if we can get into the top four and get another chance to win some silverware."
