BROWNLOW medallist Matt Priddis is on the verge of signing a contract extension with West Coast.

 

The midfielder is already tied to the Eagles for the 2015 season, but the two parties are in the late stage of talks to take his contract out to the end of 2016.

 

West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett said an official announcement was due soon, with expectations the new contract may be announced as early as this week.

 

"He's got an existing contract and what we've been doing with Pridda is rolling his contracts over," Nisbett told Perth's the Sunday Times.

 

"So I know it's pretty close to rolling over into another year so it will be 2015-16 and so far it's heading in the right direction."

 

Priddis' deserving, yet somewhat surprising, Brownlow win will also elevate the figures contained within his contract as he is set for a lucrative pay rise.

 

The Eagles and the AFL will need to sign off on the revised deal ahead of Friday's list and total player payments lodgement for next season.

 

The retirements of premiership veterans Darren Glass and Dean Cox will also open up some significant space in the Eagles' salary cap.

 

"There will be some upside, there's always some upside and he'll get some upside regardless of what we pay him on the back of his Brownlow win," Nisbett said.

 

"Really the big thing for Pridda is security, I think.

 

"It gives him another year, he deserves that and he keeps soldiering on."

 

Priddis became the first Eagle to win the award since Ben Cousins took home 'Charlie' in 2005.

 

The Eagles ball magnet averaged 28.5 disposals, seven tackles and seven clearances per game in 2014.
