Selwood, who has experienced some of the biggest highs of the game, finds himself searching for answers after slumping to the worst defeat in his decorated career on Thursday night.
Five talking points: Sydney Swans v Geelong
The Sydney Swans' 110-point demolition job at the SCG was Geelong's worst loss in more than 30 years and something Selwood and his teammates have never had to deal with so far at Kardinia Park.
Selwood is hopeful the players' ability to bounce back from losses in the past will stand them in good stead as they prepare for next Friday's clash with Carlton.
"It's challenging for the group," Selwood said after the match.
"It is not a feeling that we want but we are going to go through it right now and we are going to find out who is going to stand up.
"That's what I am going to look forward to."
Asked if the defeat hurt, Selwood said: "Yep."
The 26-year-old Selwood, a three-time premiership player, said the Cats came into the game feeling upbeat given last week's win over North Melbourne and believing they matched up well against the Swans.
However, the Swans dominated from the opening minutes and Geelong had no answer to their pressure through the midfield and potent forward line.
"We just got outrun, we got outspread, we got beaten at the contest, we got beaten in the air, all over the ground," Selwood said.
"You have got to bring your game. If you don't you get found out like we did.”
Selwood said the players would have the weekend to themselves before returning to the
club on Monday to learn the lessons from Thursday night's match and begin preparations for the contest against the Blues.
