The AFL will hold a special NAB AFL Draft meeting on Wednesday September 17, 2014 for all clubs who wished to consider selecting a player who had partaken in the upcoming Foxtel show on FOX8, ‘The Recruit’, which is currently airing.
Club recruiting officers were today briefed on the process that will apply at this special Draft at a meeting at AFL House.
AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon said the AFL Commission had determined that the player selected at this Draft could be placed on club lists as a Category B rookie.
The process will work as follows:
- The final three players who reach the last episode of the Recruit will be voted upon by all clubs on a 3 2 1 basis to determine the winner.
- Once the winner of the Recruit is announced, all 18 clubs will have the option to declare if they wish to nominate him as a draft selection or to pass.
- In the event that more than one club nominates the Recruit, the winner will get to pick the club of his choice, after a presentation from each club that nominates him as a potential selection.
The Recruit is currently being broadcast at 7.30pm on Wednesdays on FOX8, with an encore screening on FOX FOOTY on Sunday nights at 8.30pm. The Draft Show will be broadcast live as their final episode for the season.
Players had to be 20 years of age on or before 31 December 2013 and may not have been on an AFL Primary or Rookie List at any time previously in their career or on a VFL, SANFL or WAFL club list in 2012 and 2013.
