Mike Brady could again feature on Grand Final day in 2014
MUSICIAN Mike Brady is in talks to perform at the 2014 Grand Final.
It comes as speculation continues about a major act to perform at the MCG, with the League reportedly approaching Welsh singer Tom Jones.
Brady earned a surprise call-up to the Grand Final stage last year after rarely being sighted during ex-CEO Andrew Demetriou’s reign.
New AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said on Thursday that Brady may again become a fixture on the League's biggest day, and Brady confirmed an approach.
"I'm hoping to [play] … and it was good to hear him (McLachlan) say that," Brady told AFL.com.au on Thursday.
"I'm delighted if we can do it, and we're talking about it now.”
Brady said if talks are successful, he was likely to again play fan favourite, ‘One Day in September’.
"I'm lucky, to have a song like that under your belt and part of your repertoire, footy fans love it,” he said.
"It goes a bit beyond footy too, people just like it generally because it's such an uplifting song."
Brady said the song had even made an impact overseas with former US President Jimmy Carter once requesting a copy.
"He didn't know anything about Aussie football, but it's just an uplifting song,” Brady said.
With the 2015 Grand Final now set for October, Brady admits the famous track would seem out of place, but he’d be prepared to change the line
"It doesn't upset me, but it's pretty tricky. There's not a lot that rhymes with October," he said.
Grand Final entertainment has often drawn the wrath of footy fans, from Angry Anderson's famous bat mobile appearance in 1991 and more recently, the disastrous appearance by Meatloaf.
