The second AFL Women’s Exhibition Match will be played at Etihad Stadium this Sunday June 29 at 10.10am.

The match will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Western Bulldogs v Melbourne AFL match. 

The exhibition match brings together the best female football talent from across Australia and is the pinnacle of the AFL Female Football Program.

Children under the age of 15 will be offered free tickets before 11am. Tickets will be available at Gate 3 from 9.30am to 11am.

AFL General Manager People, Customer and Community Dorothy Hisgrove said the AFL is working to provide opportunities for women in every aspect of the game.

“The Women’s Exhibition Match is a single aspect of a broader strategy as to how we are going to grow the game. We are taking a systemic approach to the ongoing development of female participation at all levels,” she said. 

AFL Head of Development Grant Williams said the match will be played at a high standard.

“Many were impressed with the athleticism and skills of players at the inaugural match last year and I expect more of the same this year. We encourage all footy fans to come to the ground or watch the match online,” he said.

There are now more than 170,000 female football participants and it’s the game’s fastest growing segment. Australian Football is now in the top four most popular female sports in Australia. 

Sunday’s match also involves some of the best female coaches including Michelle Cowan, Martine Pearman and Nikki Harwood.
