Cats, Pies and Hawks to regain stars but will the Blues risk Judd?
ADELAIDE Sam Jacobs is expected to be available to face Fremantle despite being subbed during from the Crows' win over Gold Coast with a corked hip flexor. David Mackay and Charlie Cameron also sustained knocks against the Suns, but will be fit for selection. Brad Crouch will make his return to competitive football after an extended layoff due to a broken leg – he'll play for the Crows' SANFL side this weekend. Ricky Henderson could also return to the SANFL within two weeks. Mitch Grigg, Luke Thompson and Cam Ellis-Yolmen are all pushing for selection with good SANFL form and all impressed in a scratch match last Saturday. - Harry Thring
Justin Leppitsch has a big decision on his hands with who should replace injured ruckman Trent West for Saturday's match against the Western Bulldogs in Melbourne. The front-runner is Stefan Martin, who has played two strong games in the reserves after a long injury lay-off but Leppitsch could also opt for basketball convert Archie Smith, who has shown rapid development in just his second year in the game. However, it could be seen as a risk throwing Smith in against Bulldogs giant Will Minson for his first game. Veteran Ash McGrath is also likely to play his first game for the season in the reserves after overcoming a recurring calf injury. - Michael Whiting
After their shock loss to the Brisbane Lions, the Blues will be tempted to bring champion midfielder Chris Judd straight back into the seniors after a five-match absence with a strained hamstring. They should also regain running defender Andrew Walker, who was forced to miss last Saturday’s match with a sore knee. Nick Graham, Blaine Johnson and Jaryd Cachia, named as the emergencies for the Lions’ clash, must also be in strong contention. - Howard Kotton
COLLINGWOOD
Steele Sidebottom's three-week suspension and Nick Maxwell's calf injury will automatically force Collingwood into two changes for its Queen's Birthday encounter with Melbourne. However the Pies have ready and able replacements, with Dane Swan (heel), Brodie Grundy (back tightness) and Luke Ball (calf tightness) all likely to return from one-week injuries. Ben Reid is also expected to return in the VFL for his first game this season after a long-term calf injury. But Patrick Karnezis' hamstring injury has come at the wrong time for him and the club, meaning he will miss between two and three weeks just as he was nearing a senior call-up. - Ben Guthrie
Michael Hurley expects to return to face Greater Western Sydney after a back spasm ruled him out of last week's win over Richmond. The Bombers are otherwise in pretty good shape, but will still miss Jackson Merrett as he nurses a broken finger. Rookie Cory Dell'Olio continued his solid form in the VFL, while Travis Colyer and Leroy Jetta will also be aiming for senior recalls. Shaun Edwards, recruited from Greater Western Sydney during last year's trade period, has not yet played for the Bombers but is getting closer to a red and black debut. - Callum Twomey

FREMANTLE
The Dockers delivered a polished 38-point win over the Bulldogs, appeared to get through unscathed, and with Peel having the bye in the WAFL it will be difficult for any changes to be forced. Alex Silvagni was squeezed out against the Bulldogs on match-ups and could be considered for the Adelaide clash. Colin Sylvia, Hayden Crozier, and Brady Grey are all awaiting their opportunity should it be presented to them. Clancee Pearce is closing in on a return from his shoulder injury although it is highly unlikely to be this week. - Alex Malcolm
GEELONG
The Cats are hoping to regain defenders Tom Lonergan (concussion) and Corey Enright (ankle) for Friday night's clash with Carlton at Etihad Stadium. Lonergan should be fine but Enright will have to pass a fitness test later in the week. A number of young players are also pushing for selection. Draftees Jarrad Jansen and Darcy Lang have been impressive performers in the VFL in the past month, while Brad Hartman was among the travelling emergencies who headed to Sydney last week. Jackson Thurlow is also very much in the mix. - Adam McNicol
GOLD COAST
Exciting half-forward Harley Bennell is a likely inclusion to take on the Sydney Swans at Metricon Stadium on Sunday after overcoming a corked calf that kept him out of the loss to Adelaide. Of bigger concern for coach Guy McKenna is the availability of fullback Rory Thompson, who is still battling to overcome a wrist injury. Thompson has missed the past two games and is racing the clock to take the field against the all-star Swans forward line. Karmichael Hunt had 30 disposals in the NEAFL at the weekend and would be an outside chance. - Michael Whiting
GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
A couple of really tough weeks, which culminated in consecutive 100-point defeats to West Coast and Richmond, were largely laid to rest with Greater Western Sydney's outstanding and timely performance against Hawthorn on Sunday. Jeremy Cameron was cleared of a suspected broken arm, but will still miss this week against Essendon through suspension. That means No.1 draft pick Tom Boyd could get another opportunity, after his four-goal haul in the reserves at the weekend. Naturally in a 111-point win for the seconds over Eastlake, they had plenty of contributors, including Mark Whiley, Nathan Wilson and Matthew Buntine. But this week, coach Leon Cameron is likely to retain most of the players that performed so well against the Hawks. - James Dampney

HAWTHORN
The shaky Hawks could be steadied by the returns of Jordan Lewis, Ben Stratton, Ben McEvoy and potentially Cyril Rioli against West Coast. Lewis and Stratton were late withdrawals from the GWS match with adductor complaints, while McEvoy missed with a corked hamstring. The former Saint could be a direct swap for David Hale if he doesn't recover in time from a quadricep injury suffered against the Giants. Rioli is on the cusp of returning from a hamstring strain, but might be held back another week. Key position swingman Matt Spangher (ankle) should be fit to return this weekend – probably at Box Hill. The VFL affiliate had the bye last weekend. - Travis King
MELBOURNE
Chris Dawes will be an automatic inclusion after serving a week's suspension with Max Gawn likely to make way for the key forward. Casey Scorpions had a bye last week but Aidan Riley and Jordie McKenzie remain in contention. Jimmy Toumpas played as a substitute so the main selection question will rest on whether he maintains his spot or the Demons go for more of an inside type such as Riley or McKenzie. - Peter Ryan
NORTH MELBOURNE
Lindsay Thomas (hamstring) was the only injury concern to come out of North's win over West Coast, with few changes likely after the impressive 38-point victory. Sidelined defender Nathan Grima (foot) will have to train fully later this week to be considered for selection against Richmond. North's VFL teams did not play on the weekend, but midfielder Ben Jacobs was named as an emergency last Sunday and is among the leading candidates for a senior recall. Meanwhile, key forward Robbie Tarrant (tibia stress reaction) is a chance to return for his first game of the year in the VFL this weekend. - Nick Bowen
PORT ADELAIDE
The Power's coaches will be busier than normal this week, keeping a close eye on the recoveries of Matt White (foot), Travis Boak (ankle), Tom Jonas (groin), Angus Monfries (ankle), Chad Wingard (concussion) and Dom Cassisi (knee). Wingard is tipped to play against St Kilda and Monfries and Cassisi should also be available after missing last week's win over Melbourne. The club will regain the services of Hamish Hartlett, who has served his one-match suspension for striking. The SANFL team had a bye at the weekend, but the likes of Paul Stewart, Cam O'Shea, Ben Newton and Tom Logan are all awaiting their opportunities at senior level - Harry Thring

RICHMOND
Another week, another standout VFL performance from midfielder Anthony Miles. Now elevated to the Tigers' senior list, Miles could hardly be doing more in pursuit of his first game for Richmond, winning 35 possessions and five clearances in the VFL at the weekend. The former GWS midfielder has developed a good inside/outside balance to his game and it could be time to test him at the next level, against North Melbourne on Sunday. If the axe swings hard at Punt Road Oval, Ty Vickery (21 possessions and 13 marks) and Orren Stephenson (three goals and 30 hit-outs) are pushing to return in the VFL. Brad Helbig (26 possessions and 11 marks), Ricky Petterd (20 possessions in a half) and Matt Arnot (25 and seven inside 50s) are also available. Half-back Nick Vlastuin faces a test on his injured finger this week. - Nathan Schmook
ST KILDA
Maverick Weller faces a fitness test after being subbed out with concussion against Collingwood, but David Armitage looks set to return against Port Adelaide after putting in a strong performance for Sandringham on the weekend. He made an impact throughout the game in his first appearance since round four and it would be hard to see him spending another week in the VFL. Tom Lee kicked three goals, which will do him no harm in pushing for his first game for the season, while Beau Maister also managed three and Josh Saunders was in the best. It doesn't look like any players will come off the injury list this week and Luke Delaney could join them after being troubled by his hip against the Magpies. - Jennifer Phelan

SYDNEY SWANS
The Swans reserves keep on winning, meaning there are plenty of players in form pushing for a berth in the senior side. The only issue for them is the fact the seniors keep winning too, capped by a stunning 110-point victory over Geelong, their sixth in a row. Dan Robinson was best on ground in the reserves' big win over NT Thunder that took them top of the table, as he continues pushing for an AFL debut, while Tom Mitchell and Ryan O'Keefe were also standouts. Brandon Jack, Gary Rohan and Tim Membrey also pushed their claims with solid outings. But how do they force their way into the seniors? The only issue for the first team is a knee issue for Dane Rampe from the big win over the Cats. - James Dampney
WEST COAST
Darren Glass will be a much-needed injection of experience back into the Eagles line-up to face the Hawks after missing the deflating loss to North Melbourne with soreness. Xavier Ellis (corked thigh) faces an uphill battle to be fit for the clash with his old side in Launceston given it's a six-day turnaround. There was much discussion following the Eagles' loss on Sunday about midfield changes. The issue is that East Perth played on Monday and so the players putting their hands up for selection will only have a five-day break. Mark Hutchings had 28 touches and kicked a goal in the WAFL. Dom Sheed gathered 22 possessions and Patrick McGinnity had 21 touches. Scott Lycett had 22 touches, 23 hit-outs and kicked three goals if the Eagles wish to go with three talls again. - Alex Malcolm

WESTERN BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs must inject some firepower into their faltering forward line for Saturday night's clash with the Brisbane Lions. Key-forward Liam Jones is available after serving a two-match ban, while Jarrad Grant has impressed in the VFL since his return from a foot injury. The midfield should also get a boost with former skipper Matthew Boyd considered a good chance to return from a hamstring complaint. The match committee should also consider handing draftee Mitch Honeychurch his debut after a string of strong VFL performances. Defenders Christian Howard and Fletcher Roberts may struggle to hold their places after both had limited impact against Fremantle. – Ryan Davidson
