St Kilda Football Club can confirm it will not be appealing the suspension handed down to Steven Baker at last night’s AFL Tribunal hearing.
St Kilda CEO Michael Nettlefold said, “We’re disappointed with the sanctions to the extent that they compounded the way they did, which in effect has left Steven with an extreme penalty for what were deemed low impact incidents.
However the AFL rules are the AFL rules and every player is aware of these rules and how they apply. Players are very aware that their actions on the field come under vigorous scrutiny at all times and rightfully so.
To that extent, the Football Club and Steven Baker are both disappointed in his actions on the night. These actions, over a short period of time on Friday night, are not a true reflection of the brand of football Steven Baker or St Kilda Football Club pride themselves on.
Steven is an admired and decorated player and an integral part of the playing group at St Kilda Football Club. His commitment to winning the football and being part of one of the best performing defensive backlines in the competition over the last number of years is unquestioned.
Both the Club and Steven intend to put this matter behind them and accept the penalty as the Club and the playing group continue to focus on delivering performance based outcomes for all its members.”
