FREMANTLE recruit Michael Barlow and third-year midfielder Touk Miller are the new faces in Gold Coast's seven-strong leadership group announced on Tuesday morning.
Captains Tom Lynch and Steven May will also be joined by Matt Rosa, Michael Rischitelli and David Swallow, who return in their leadership roles.
Gary Ablett, who stepped down as captain in November after six years in the job, is not in the leadership group.
Ablett has not guaranteed playing beyond 2017 despite having two years to run on his contract, and has previously said he wanted to concentrate on getting his body right and playing 22 rounds of football after two injury-riddled years.
Barlow has made a big impression since joining the Suns as a delisted free agent in November, while 20-year-old Miller has been earmarked as a potential leader since the day he was drafted.
Coach Rodney Eade said it was a strong group voted on by the players.
"Michael Rischitelli, Matt Rosa and David Swallow are already established leaders at our football club and in Michael and David's case they've been playing that role for some time," Eade said.
"Similar to Matty Rosa last year, Michael Barlow has made an immediate impact on the playing group, leading by example on and off the field, and his elevation to the player leadership group demonstrates the influence he has had on the team in a relatively short period of time."
Eade said Miller's elevation was an endorsement of the leadership capabilities shown over two years by the former Vic Metro captain.
"He has grown and developed as a person, player and leader and we believe Touk will benefit enormously from being part of the leadership group in 2017."
