GREATER Western Sydney coach Kevin Sheedy has thrown a lure to potential recruits, saying Melbourne clubs "are going nowhere".

Sheedy declined to single out any clubs, but said the Sydney market was an enticing place for potential free agents – including Hawthorn star and restricted free agent Lance Franklin.

"We'll recruit up to four players at the end of the year, and whoever they are, they're going to end up with a very good side around them," he told Channel Nine's The Sunday Footy Show.

"You can float around in Melbourne and go nowhere. And some of these clubs are going nowhere."

Sheedy said that while he preferred to stay at the Giants in some capacity next season he was still open to job offers from Victorian clubs.

In particular, he was asked whether he would be interested in helping Melbourne out of its current predicament.

"I wouldn't think they'd ask," Sheedy said.

He was an unsuccessful applicant for the Melbourne coaching position after leaving Essendon in 2007, with the job going to Dean Bailey.

"I am very happy to be working at the Giants, I think they're going to be a fantastic club.

"My first preference would be to stay in Sydney, if it's negotiated on a pretty amicable negotiation."

Sheedy said former Essendon CEO Peter Jackson was the right man to help the Demons through their tough time in his role as interim CEO at Melbourne.

Sheedy admitted that, as well as coaching the team, it was his role to try to garner local support for the Giants in the west of Sydney.

That meant that Giants assistant Leon Cameron, who will take over the top job in a full-time capacity in 2014, had an enhanced role this season.

"It's a changeover year. You cannot be there and dominate the coaching position," Sheedy said.

"You've got to be there to do the right thing by the club and make sure that this young man (Cameron), who's coming in to a really tough job, is going to get the best learning experiences."
