DAVID Zaharakis is in doubt for the NAB Cup after straining his quad muscle on Monday.

The Essendon midfielder suffered the injury at training and had scans on Tuesday morning which revealed a grade-one strain.

Football manager Danny Corcoran said the 2011 best and fairest winner could miss the pre-season competition.

"It is not a severe injury so we are hoping he will see some NAB Cup action and be right for round one," Corcoran told essendonfc.com.au.

"It is a different injury to last time but it is grade one and he will miss two to three weeks."

Zaharakis suffered a severe quad tendon injury at training last year before the Bombers' round 11 clash with the Sydney Swans.

He had another setback during his rehabilitation and didn't return until round 21.

His strain breaks a relatively injury-free summer for the club.

Earlier on Tuesday, coach James Hird addressed Bombers fans at Federation Square and told them of his squad's strong pre-season.

"You'll be very happy to know the boys are into week 13 of their pre-season training and 90 per cent of the squad has completed about 95 per cent of the work," Hird said.
