ADELAIDE
SLOGAN: We're ready to fly…so get on board
2013 TALLY: 46,054
CURRENT TALLY: 40,024
REASONS TO BUY: With an established and passionate supporter base, big crowds at the newly developed Adelaide Oval will create an incredible atmosphere within the cauldron-like stadium - the recent Ashes Test was just a taste. Despite a disappointing 2013 there's a lot to like about the Crows – their midfield is elite, a strengthened forward line with the arrivals of James Podsiadly and Eddie Betts and the return of Taylor Walker and a young, lion-hearted defence led by 2012 NAB AFL Rising Star Daniel Talia. - Harry Thring

BRISBANE LIONS
SLOGAN: Believe. Belong.
2013 TALLY: 24,130
CURRENT TALLY: 12,296
REASONS TO BUY: You've got a new coach, a new team and a new direction to follow. And all after missing the finals by two kicks in 2013. Plus, it might be the last chance you get to see Jonathan Brown run around on a weekly basis. - Michael Whiting

CARLTON
SLOGAN: We are the Navy Blues
2013 TALLY: 50,564
CURRENT TALLY: 27,397
REASONS TO BUY: The Blues are probably as well placed now for a flag tilt as they are going to be for the next couple of years. They need to strike while veterans like Chris Judd, Jarrad Waite and Kade Simpson are still capable of delivering. Ankle permitting, ex-Magpie Dale Thomas will add considerable flair and star power, while former Sydney Swan Andrejs Everitt enables greater flexibility in a line-up that desperately needs some unpredictability and X-factor. Champion midfielder Marc Murphy appears to be over the knee problem that hampered him in 2013 and will be a better leader in his second season as skipper. Top draft pick Patrick Cripps has been likened to AFL great Greg Williams for his extracting abilities, and has already been nicknamed 'Diesel' by his new teammates. The appointments of two key figures – new fitness chief David Buttifant and assistant coach Dean Laidley – are also expected to have a strong influence on output. - Ben Collins

COLLINGWOOD
SLOGAN: Side by side
2013 TALLY: 78,427
CURRENT TALLY: 60,000 plus
REASONS TO BUY: Joining big crowds, hype and hope is part of being a Collingwood member. President Eddie McGuire adds to the razzamatazz, understanding Magpie supporters love being hated more than being loved. A new era beckons as the club turns over its list, with seven players from its most recent premiership team no longer at the club. Young talent in Taylor Adams, Matt Scharenberg and Nathan Freeman have joined Brodie Grundy, Jamie Elliott and Josh Thomas, adding excitement and expectation to a talented list that already contains Dayne Beams, Dane Swan, Scott Pendlebury and Heritier Lumumba. -  Peter Ryan

ESSENDON
SLOGAN: Essendon will launch a new membership slogan in the new year.
2013 TALLY: 56,173
CURRENT TALLY: 35,309
REASONS TO BUY: Essendon has recruited Paul Chapman to feature in success, and despite the trials and tribulations of last season, the club was still only a game off being top of the ladder at round 18. They have their usual allotment of blockbuster games and will be fired up to reach the finals in 2014. - Callum Twomey

FREMANTLE
SLOGAN: Own the moment
2013 TALLY: 44,035
CURRENT TALLY: 41,840
REASONS TO BUY: Dockers members witnessed a stunning preliminary final victory over the Sydney Swans in 2013, and they should be right there at the business end again in 2014. Dockers fans are in rarified air at the moment and the lure of a premiership should be reason enough to buy a membership. The opportunity to see Luke McPharlin, Matthew Pavlich and Aaron Sandilands in the twilight of their astonishing careers is also too good to pass up. Fremantle will also host blockbusters against Essendon, Hawthorn, Geelong and Carlton. -  Alex Malcolm

GEELONG
SLOGAN: #belonggeelong. Be part of the greatest team of all
2013 TALLY: 40,205
CURRENT TALLY: 16,950
REASONS TO BUY: The Cats have made the finals in seven consecutive seasons, and there's no reason to believe the run is over. Sign up with Geelong and you get to see some of the best young players in the competitions, superstars like Joel Selwood and Jimmy Bartel, and regular party tricks from Steve Johnson and Steven Motlop.  Adam McNicol

GOLD COAST
SLOGAN: Fire Up
2013 TALLY: 12,502
CURRENT TALLY: 7,762
REASONS TO BUY: The Suns are on the rise. Not only do you get to see the best player in the game (Gary Ablett) every two weeks, but also the best young player from last year (Jaeger O'Meara), and probably the best young player this year (Jack Martin). And there's also a good chance you'll see history made with the club's first finals appearance. - Michael Whiting

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
SLOGAN: Stand Tall
2013 TALLY: 12,681
CURRENT TALLY: 5,005
REASONS TO BUY: The Giants received their wish of hosting the Swans in round one at Giants Stadium and they are planning for a sell-out in Lance Franklin's first game for his new club. The new-look GWS side will also be hoping for an early win to kick-start its campaign, hosting Melbourne in round three. Some big-name sides will also be venturing to Sydney this year, with Richmond, Essendon, Carlton, Geelong and Collingwood all travelling to Giants Stadium over the back half of the season. If they haven't already, fans should also check out the club's impressive home ground, particularly the BBQ deck, which is an outstanding place to watch a game. - James Dampney

HAWTHORN
SLOGAN: Always Hawthorn
2013 TALLY: 63,353
CURRENT TALLY: 48,135
REASONS TO BUY: All members receive a loyalty scarf, lanyard, personalised membership card and sticker sheet. Those members who signed up or renewed before December 16 received further incentives. And of course, all Hawthorn members are in the front of the queue to buy finals tickets. Hawthorn fans tend not to make holiday plans for September. - Ashley Browne
MELBOURNE
SLOGAN: My heart beats true
2013 TALLY: 33,177
CURRENT TALLY: 22,105
REASONS TO BUY: The Demons have a new coach, a fresh approach and hopefully some improved results. Paul Roos is sure to generate some enthusiasm among the supporter base, while faith will be entrusted in the Demons' younger players. Young forward Jesse Hogan is the great hope for Melbourne. Hogan's form in the VFL last season was exciting and tantalising. The 18-year-old has all the tools to be an absolute star. The rate of his development will be interesting, while Mitch Clark and Chris Dawes should be able to hold down the forward line in the meantime. Jeremy Howe's high-flying antics cannot be discredited. They are worth the price of admission alone. - Ben Guthrie

NORTH MELBOURNE
SLOGAN: We will rise together
2013 TALLY: 34,607
CURRENT TALLY: 22,254
REASONS TO BUY: Time to hop on board, North fans. As the Roos' slogan suggests, they look set to rise up the ladder next year and you don't want to miss that. You can also bank on being entertained each week by one of the most attacking and high-scoring brands of football in the competition. Still want more? Well, the Roos are returning to prime time in 2014 after being drawn to play five games under the Friday night spotlight. And North's large band of West Australian supporters will get the chance to see their team at Patersons Stadium twice, with the Roos facing away clashes against Fremantle (round six) and West Coast (round 11). - Nick Bowen

PORT ADELAIDE
SLOGAN: We are Port Adelaide
2013 TALLY: 40,162
CURRENT TALLY: 33,252
REASONS TO BUY: Undoubtedly the feel-good story of 2013, the Power have turned their ship around dramatically from the gloom of 2011/12 and are now storming towards a bright future. Chad Wingard and Oliver Wines will look to take their games to greater heights, while increased game time for Jake Neade can only be a good thing. They play exciting and courageous football and if there was ever a time to jump on the bandwagon it'd surely be ahead of the 2014 season. - Harry Thring

RICHMOND
SLOGAN: Strong & bold - bring the roar home
2013 TALLY: 60,321
CURRENT TALLY: 41,384
REASONS TO BUY: The planning has been meticulous and the list is ready to make a genuine push on the top four. How often have Tiger fans been able to say that in the past three decades? You know you'll be a part of something big, too, with the Tiger Army only growing louder. If that isn't enough, maybe you'll be seated next to Megan Gale. - Nathan Schmook

Eat 'em alive, Tigers" has been one of the more enduring and cherished club slogans. Picture: AFL Media

ST KILDA

SYDNEY SWANS
SLOGAN: Proudly Sydney
2013 TALLY: 36,358
CURRENT TALLY: 18,750
REASONS TO BUY: Lance Franklin's arrival already appears to be having an impact, with memberships up an impressive 16 per cent on the same time last year. The club has identified a record 40,000 members as its target and Franklin's signing looms as a significant boost to its membership and crowd figures. There will be eight matches at the re-designed SCG in 2014, including clashes with Geelong, Fremantle and a Friday night showdown with Essendon in round 19. There are also two blockbusters at ANZ Stadium in the opening half of the year, against Collingwood in round two and Franklin's first clash against the Hawks, on a Friday night in round eight. - James Dampney

WEST COAST
SLOGAN: Our strength is YOU
2013 TALLY: 58,501
CURRENT TALLY: 40,000
REASONS TO BUY: The Eagles should bounce back quickly from a disastrous 2013. A new coach, a new game-plan, and a fit Nic Naitanui in full flight are reasons enough to sign up but Shannon Hurn, Mark LeCras and Sharrod Wellingham will also be fit and firing again. The Eagles have one of the best power forward pairings in the AFL in Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling while youngster Dom Sheed will be worth watching in his debut season. The Eagles host a Friday night match against Richmond in round 18 and also have home games against rivals the Sydney Swans and Collingwood. - Alex Malcolm

WESTERN BULLDOGS
SLOGAN: Gather the pack
2013 TALLY: 30,209
CURRENT TALLY: 17,661
REASONS TO BUY: The Dogs are not going to win the flag in 2014, but they can deliver a season that will take them another step closer. There's plenty of hope placed in Stewart Crameri to add something meaningful to the team's forward line, and if he can play as he did at Essendon, he should add another 30 or so goals next year. Buying a membership may mean you experience highs and lows but the Bulldogs promise to be more competitive for longer in 2014. - Jacqui Reed
