CARLTON will play for a place in the NAB Cup decider without former skipper Chris Judd, despite the club declaring him available on Tuesday.

Judd has not been named in the Blues' squad to take on Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Friday night, meaning he is still yet to play a game this pre-season.

Among the ins for the pre-season ladder leaders are big man Shaun Hampson, defender Heath Scotland and midfielder Brock McLean.
Also coming into Mick Malthouse's squad is midfielder Ed Curnow, along with youngsters Josh Bootsma, Dylan Buckley and Frazer Dale.

A win would guarantee Carlton a place in the NAB Cup Grand Final, to be played on either March 16 or 17.

Going out of the Blues' team is David Ellard, who has a hamstring injury, along with Bryce Gibbs and key forward duo Sam Rowe and Levi Casboult.

Jarrad Waite is the other big-name Blue who won't take part in the clash, as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.

Adelaide will be at close to full-strength, with Ian Callinan, Sam Shaw, Rory Sloane and Daniel Talia coming into its squad.

Tom Lynch and Aidan Reilly go out of the team that was thumped in Geelong last week.

Essendon has once again resisted the temptation to select father-son draftee Joe Daniher for its clash with Greater Western Sydney in Canberra, despite the exciting 201cm prospect's three-goal performance in a VFL practice match last week.

Bombers fans have waited eagerly for a first look at the former underage star, but coach James Hird has opted not to play him, citing a need to give game time to more senior players.

Midfielder David Zaharakis has not been selected either, leaving him without a pre-season game to his name as he recovers from a quad injury.

Ruckman David Hille is the only player to go out of the Bombers' team from last week, with Kyle Hardingham, Nathan Lovett-Murray, Tayte Pears and draftee Martin Gleeson added to the squad.

The Giants will enter the Friday night match without blossoming key forward duo Jonathan Patton, who has a corked quad, and Jeremy Cameron, but have selected co-captain Phil Davis, Tom Scully, Setanta O'hAilpin and Curtly Hampton.

Also in the Giants' squad is inside midfielder Jono O'Rourke, who will make his debut after being selected at No.2 in November's NAB AFL Draft.
