GARY Ablett is considered a strong chance to play Richmond on Saturday, but will need to prove his fitness at training during the week.

The Gold Coast captain missed last Saturday's loss against the Brisbane Lions with a calf injury.

The Suns will hold their main training session on Wednesday and another on Friday before flying to Cairns to take on the Tigers.

Gold Coast general manager of football operations Marcus Ashcroft told goldcoastfc.com.au the Suns would give Ablett every opportunity to play.

"We have our main session on Wednesday, and our medical and high performance team will be in a better position to determine his availability following that session," Ashcroft said.

Meanwhile, Karmichael Hunt has been cleared to play after overcoming his own calf injury that kept him out last weekend.

Hunt recently recovered from hamstring tendonitis and played his first match back in round 13 against Adelaide, where he struggled before being subbed out.

Ashcroft said there was no guarantee Hunt would return through the seniors.

In the corresponding match last season, Hunt lived the greatest moment of his fledgling AFL career, kicking a goal after the siren to lift Gold Coast to victory.

Sam Day (groin) and Daniel Gorringe (shoulder) are also set to face fitness tests ahead of Saturday’s game.
