The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the first five of the weekend’s matches. The following charges were laid:

 

Ed Curnow, Carlton, has been charged with a first offence for making reckless contact with an umpire ($2600 sanction) for making reckless contact with umpire Scott Jeffrey during the second quarter of the round 11 match between Carlton and Essendon, played at the MCG on Friday June 7, 2013.

 

In summary, he can accept a $1950 sanction with an early plea.

 

A first offence for making reckless contact with an umpire is a $2600 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $1950 sanction.

 

Contact between the Geelong Cats’ James Podsiadly and the GWS Giants’ Rhys Palmer from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Palmer has handballed the ball forward to teammate Adam Treloar as Podsiadly is running past the contest. Palmer runs into the path of his Geelong opponent after disposing of the ball and high contact is made. Podsiadly does not deviate from his initial line and there was no bumping action from the Geelong player. It was the view of the panel the high contact made was deemed to be accidental. No further action was taken.

 

Contact between North Melbourne’s Scott Thompson and the Gold Coast’s Gary Ablett was assessed. The prohibited contact was not seen by any umpire on the day and did not draw a free kick, which would have been expected to be paid. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
