COLLINGWOOD is primed to secure young GWS midfielder Taylor Adams now that Heath Shaw has nominated the Giants as his preferred club.
A deal was not thrashed out on Tuesday, but there is the potential for the clubs to swap later draft picks to strengthen the Giants' position in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.
"Collingwood is in a stronger position (to secure Adams), but a fair and reasonable trade needs to be worked out," Adams' manager Winston Rous told AFL.com.au.
"It needs to be appealing to GWS."
Adelaide youngster Jarryd Lyons is in dialogue with the Crows about a potential move to Melbourne after meeting with the Demons.
Contracted and happy with the Crows, it is understood Melbourne would need to put forward a compelling offer to snare the 21-year-old, although it has ruled out placing its No.2 pick on the table for either Lyons or fellow Crow Bernie Vince, who met with the Demons last Friday.
Vince, who has played 129 games for Adelaide, became an option for Melbourne once it lost mature on-baller Colin Sylvia to Fremantle through free agency. He has also met with the Giants.
Adelaide has no intention of releasing Matthew Wright, according to his manager, as part of a deal to land Brisbane Lions midfielder Jared Polec.
Michael Doughty of Elite Sports Properties told AFL.com.au that reports linking the 23-year-old to the Lions were inaccurate.
The South Australian is happy with the Crows, Doughty said, and signed a two-year contract extension in July this year.
Adelaide and Port Adelaide are both pushing to sign Polec, who has requested a trade to his home state but is yet to nominate a preferred club.
The Lions are expected to release youngster Elliott Yeo to West Coast as early as Wednesday on what would be just the third trade of the Gillette AFL Trade Period.
"I think West Coast and Brisbane, if everything goes well, you'd imagine something would turn out in the next 24 hours," Yeo's manager, Colin Young, told Gillette AFL Trade Radio on Tuesday.
Young also suggested that Essendon midfielder David Myers, another member of his stable, could be part of a three-way trade next week in a bid to secure more playing time in the midfield in 2014.
AFL.com.au understands Sydney Swans forward Andrejs Everitt has met with a rival club in the past week as he contemplates his football future.
The 24-year-old is still in talks to continue his career with the Swans, but he appears to have multiple options should he be forced to move.
Meanwhile, uncontracted Essendon defender Kyle Hardingham is expected to sign a one-year contract to remain with the club.
Hardingham played just eight games in 2013 to take his tally to 57 games. He played the final five games of the season, after finding it hard to break into a settled defence for most of the season.
Gold Coast has also re-signed young defender Jack Hutchins to a one-year contract.
The 21-year-old defender played 10 games in 2013 and showed he could compete at AFL level, returning strongly from an injury interrupted 2012.
All remained quiet on the Nick Dal Santo front with the 29-year-old midfielder still a live chance of lining up in St Kilda, North Melbourne or Essendon colours in 2014.
Former Geelong premiership forward Paul Chapman is expected to find a new football home by the end of next week, but it won't be at Hawthorn.
Newly appointed general manager of football Chris Fagan said that despite the departure of superstar forward Lance Franklin, the Hawks were not looking to bring Chapman to the club.
"He's a quality player but when you look at our list we have Cyril Rioli, Luke Breust, Paul Puopolo and some other guys who can play that small forward role really well," he told radio station SEN 1116.
"Somebody will pick Chappy up; he's a terrific player."
Fagan said the Hawks remained interested in emerging Brisbane ruckman Billy Longer although last week's trade for Ben McEvoy has made it harder for the Hawks to swing a deal.
The Hawks have also ruled out bringing former key forward Mitch Thorp back to the club, although they expect the South Launceston forward to be drafted by another club next month.
