ESSENDON coach James Hird will not front the media at 11.30am today at Windy Hill as planned.
An Essendon spokesman told waiting media minutes before Hird was due to appear that the coach was stuck in meetings and was now unavailable.
Assistant coach Simon Goodwin will now speak.
AFL.com.au understands Hird had no intention of announcing his resignation at the press conference.
The Essendon coach is one of four Bomber officials facing charges for bringing the game into disrepute.
The embattled coach's actions have been subject to fierce public scrutiny after the AFL released the grounds for charges against Essendon on Wednesday.
Hird said he felt ambushed with the release of those grounds and the AFL was intent on damaging his reputation.
On Thursday Hird lodged papers with the Supreme Court seeking an injunction to prevent AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou or any AFL Commissioner who has been given access to the ASADA interim report from hearing the charges against him.
The Bombers remain in the final eight and face a critical game against traditional rivals Carlton, on Saturday night.
AFL.com.au will broadcast the press conference live at 11.30am (AEST)
