COLLINGWOOD recruit Quinten Lynch believes he and Travis Cloke are yet to fully click as a forward duo as he prepares to play in his first Anzac Day clash at the MCG.

The ex-Eagle estimates they have been working at about 60-65 per cent efficiency during the first four rounds of the season.

Cloke is equal leader in the Coleman Medal with 16 goals while Lynch has been a solid performer both forward and in the ruck.

"We'll get better and better," Lynch told AFL.com.au.

"Trav didn't play much of the pre-season, so we didn't get to spend much time together there. We're getting better week by week and hopefully that chemistry will build throughout the year."

Can 'Buckets' contain Cloke?

Lynch has been full of praise for Cloke, while underplaying his own role in the key forward's dominant form in recent weeks.

However, Lynch has been very solid despite kicking just three goals in four games.

He spends most of his time training with the forward group but has been effective in both roles throughout the early part of the season.

His coach Nathan Buckley said on Wednesday that Lynch was vital to the team's structure, describing his minutes in the ruck as damaging.

Lynch is listed at just 192cm in the AFL Media Guide – just one centimetre taller than midfielder Scott Pendlebury – but he uses his strength and mobility to good effect.

"I'm a short ruckman," Lynch said. "I suppose in the centre bounces I'm always a little bit undersized (but) if I can get in there against other teams' back-up ruckman it's not too bad."

As he pointed out, his value lies in his follow-up work around the contest and his ability to get around the ground as much as his tapwork.

The Magpies' ruckmen will have their work cut out against Essendon's in-form big man Tom Bellchambers on Thursday but Lynch expects the Pies to meet the challenge head on.

The Bombers also go into the game with experienced ruckman David Hille - but not suspended Patrick Ryder - while the Magpies have stuck with veteran Ben Hudson as No.1 ruckman Darren Jolly returns via the VFL.

All eyes will be on Lynch again in the biggest home and away game for the season and he is slowly getting used to being the centre of attention.

"I thought I'd come under the radar a bit more over here than I am which is unfortunate because I like to go under the radar," Lynch said.

"I'm really enjoying it over here. I'm really enjoying the footy culture and really enjoying being part of such a good footy club."
