RICHMOND's Ricky Petterd has undergone surgery and Kane Lambert is set to do the same later this week, ruling the pair out for large chunks of the season.
Petterd will miss up to 12 weeks with a foot injury, while Lambert's shoulder operation will sideline him for up to eight weeks.
It was a debut to forget for Lambert, who was subbed out of the weekend's game against the Western Bulldogs in the third term with a significant AC joint injury.
“He’s got a grade three AC joint, which is going to require a little bit of surgery unfortunately,” physical performance manager Peter Burge told richmondfc.com.au.
“He was pretty sore, but we did what we could to get him back out there because we had a few guys that were down.
“So it was pretty brave of him to get back out and do what he did, but we won’t see him for a couple of weeks.”
Petterd's opening game of the year also ended badly, with scans revealing a serious foot injury.
The 26-year-old had surgery on Monday night and could miss three months of football.
"He’s got what’s called a lisfranc injury…he’s going to miss some time out of the game,” Burge said.
“We just need to get him back into a rehab program and slowly progress him back through that.”
