NEW FREMANTLE chief executive Steve Rosich will not have a hands-on involvement in the football department going forward and his main goal is to achieve sustained success.

Rosich, 38, has been with Fremantle since 2004 after time with West Coast as business operations manager and prior to that he had a high up role in international chartered accounting firm Deloitte.

He comes in with the clear aim of taking Fremantle's off-field success on the field for a sustained period.

"We need to have a look at where we're at in terms of our aim of being a great football club. We will make sure we have got the strategy in place to pursue sustained success on the field," Rosich said.

"We are striving to be a great football club and to be that I would like us to be professional, disciplined and to show leadership. We are in a great position off the field and my role is to reward that with on-field performance. To be great you need sustained success and we haven’t been able to achieve that yet."

In contrast to outgoing chief executive Cameron Schwab, Rosich won't have a hands-on role with the football department and is keen to bring his own philosophies on how to run a successful football club into the role with him.

"I see my role as CEO of making sure that I set the strategic framework for the football and recruiting people to work within, but I won't have a direct hand in those activities," he said.

"I've been lucky enough to spend nine years in the AFL, the last four at this club, and I've got my own ideas, which are based on the experience I've had in that time. I will be testing those thoughts and theories with the key people at this club."

In the coming weeks, Rosich will continue in his role, handling player contracts, with Robert Warnock a priority, while he has also declared Josh Carr a required player but Jeff Farmer and Dean Solomon will need to wait until the end of the season.

Trading will not be on the cards, though, as Rosich wants to see the club rebuild via the draft.

"We are going to re-invigorate the list via the draft, that's our first priority at this period of time. Given that this is an uncompromised draft, our strategy at this point is to retain all our picks in the first three rounds," he said.

"Jeff [Farmer] and Dean [Solomon] are in the same place. We've told their management that we will sit down with them at the end of the season and see where they're at. Josh is the vice-captain of our football club and is a required player, so we look forward to working through things with him shortly.

"Rob Warnock is a required player. He is a young and talented player, and we are working through a process at the moment to hopefully see him stay here, but we aren’t in a position to announce anything."
