An ankle injury during the club's pre-season training camp on the Gold Coast put Firrito back a fortnight in his 2010 preparation, but the break could be considered an advantage rather than a hindrance as he returned refreshed and ready to go.

In defence once again where he is most comfortable, Firrito was a vital component of a back six that caused plenty of headaches for opposition forwards.

He had the most consistent season of his career, and will consider himself unlucky not to have made the All Australian squad.

With 149 games under his belt in eight seasons, Firrito has become one of North Melbourne's most important players.

AFL.com.au’s Steve Lavell says: Looked far more comfortable in his return to defence after a disappointing 2009 and should push for top five in the best and fairest. So important to team structure with his rebound and grunt.

Highlights: Round 3 v West Coast - 27 possessions, 8 marks

Round 16 v Richmond - 22 possessions, 1 goal

Should have been all Australian always flies the flag!

Definately rate Spud as he's been awesome all year.

This guy is as tough as they come. Pushes back hard into packs & attacks every contest with the utmost ferocity. Spud was back to his best coming off half back. Will probably finish 3rd or 4th in the B&F. Fantastic season & well done.
